2011-03-21 [Mortified Penguin]: I suspect the guards won't take too kindly to this wiki. They probably won't let you use the badge, since it's just a remake of the council badge and they would consider that against the Uploading Art Rules. They may also frown upon the header image up there that makes this sort of look like an official Elftown page, even though you removed the part saying that it is.
2011-03-21 [kians mummy]: i asked a guard and they said i could as long as the badge does not go on a profile and i deleted the official wiki icon.
the patrollers. if you look, alot of them haven't been on here for a long time, this is just purely for volunteers who want to help, thats it
2011-03-21 [Mortified Penguin]: It's a nice concept, but I don't think the guards would like the sheriffs messaging members about breaking rules, as the sheriffs aren't technically official Elftown crew. It would be best if the sheriffs just reported rule breakers to the guards and let them handle everything.
2011-03-21 [kians mummy]: thats what we are basically doing but we are just warning them that they are braking the rules and if they don't amend it themselves the guards will, and you know yourself you only get so many chances so we are giving them that extra chance
2011-03-21 [Mortified Penguin]: The guards nowadays will, usually, give them an extra chance or two though. And someone not trained to be a guard may not be capable of handling the situation correctly and may end up causing more trouble. But if you still feel it necessary, by all means, continue in your endeavors to better Elftown.
2011-03-21 [kians mummy]: i will, and just for your info, i manage www.tagged.com
http://www.tag
2011-03-21 [Sunrose]: We don't want people creating fake titles so they can have some sort of fake authority with which they'll message people about rule violations. It will just confuse people and most likely piss them off.
Instead you could just make reports to the guards and try to become one of the Patrollers.
2011-03-21 [Rice]: *agrees with [Sunrose]* To be honest if I got a message from you, [kians mummy], about me breaking the rules or whatever, I'd laugh hysterically.
As it has been said, this is fake authority and will no doubt just earn you negative points as apposed to proving anything.
2011-03-21 [kians mummy]: whats the point in trying to become anything when it takes ages to do, i manage my own website with my fiance, and its 10 times easier to get a job on there, its about trust
2011-03-21 [kians mummy]: plus most of the potrollers are not even on here anymore
2011-03-21 [nehirwen]: It's indeed about trust, start earning it by making reports every now and then. ;)
2011-03-21 [Sunrose]: It's about trust and showing your capabilities: what can you do that we actually need?
Obviously if you have your own website, you won't have to prove any of that to yourself. But we don't know you or your skills.
2011-03-21 [Rice]: 'Whats the point in trying to become anything when it takes ages to do?'
You realise how utterly hilarious that statement was, right? You crack my ribs and make me giggle...funny funny.
What is your website, maybe you should show people?
2011-03-21 [Sunrose]: And btw I have counted at least 4 Patrollers who still frequent Elftown. It's not relevant though if they are still here or not, you don't need other Patrollers to become one.
I'll give you a tip though: if you want to join crew you might start with working on your writing skills. Your Tagged profile contains a lot of texting language that Elftown crew tends to frown upon.
2011-03-21 [kians mummy]: http://www.tag
this is my profile, its a chat site full of games, a bit like facebook. you can create groups but none that are pornagraphic, its for any age
2011-03-21 [kians mummy]: And btw I have counted at least 4 Patrollers who are still frequent on Elftown. (corrected grammar)
2011-03-21 [Rice]: Corrected grammar. (Corrected grammar)
2011-03-21 [nehirwen]: Actually what Sunny said is correct as well. x) (or is this a dutch thing?) <.<
2011-03-21 [Rice]: Nope, what Sunny said was correct as well.
2011-03-21 [Sunrose]: What I said is correct. They still frequent Elftown.
Plus, you aren't going to score points by being a little bitch correcting grammar, just because someone pointed out that your own grammar sucks. And then doing it very badly too, by misspelling the word grammar and correcting something that wasn't wrong to begin with.
2011-03-21 [Rice]: Some people can't handle criticism. *sigh*
2011-03-21 [Sunrose]: Well if she wants to be crew, she better get used to it :P
2011-03-21 [kians mummy]: name calling, hmmmmmmmm. like your going to become crew [Sunrose]
2011-03-21 [Rice]: *bursts out in hysterical laughter*
2011-03-21 [Sunrose]: :D
2011-03-21 [Rice]: Oh god, that actually destroyed my sides.
2011-03-21 [kians mummy]: [Sunrose] i am politly asking you to leave my wiki and if you don't i will report you, although you maybe right you did not need to start with the name calling
2011-03-21 [kians mummy]: i'm sure i was told, that in difficult situations crew members will face they have to keep calm and calling names is not, i didn't call you names, it was minor banter until you decided to do so,
2011-03-21 [kians mummy]: [Rice] who was you saying that to
2011-03-21 [Rice]: All my statements are directed at you, Sammie. You should do your homework.
2011-03-21 [Sunrose]: Crewmembers curse at each other all the time, and so do members towards crewmembers. So hence you better get used to it :P
2011-03-21 [kians mummy]: [Rice]
answer this then
why don't you call me a name then and see where it gets you, because half of the reports i do go straight to [Hedda] as he is the only one i can trust?
2011-03-21 [Rice]: I'm terrified.
2011-03-21 [Sunrose]: Haha I'm sure he likes it that you trouble him with messages about other members, even though we have a report system.. :D
2011-03-21 [kians mummy]: well why don't you then
2011-03-21 [kians mummy]: the report systam is corrupt anyway
2011-03-21 [Sunrose]: You want her to name call you, so you can send a report to Hedda about it? XD
Everyone in power is subject to corruption, you'll learn that some day..
2011-03-21 [kians mummy]: because if one of the guards like someone they will just ignore it
2011-03-21 [Rice]: HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! You're pathetic Sammie, but a damn funny pathetic mess.
2011-03-21 [kians mummy]: exactly [Rice], you no that you will be violating your own rules as working for the council, and thats why you haven't called me any names, i can be nice to the people who are nice to me. i can also be nice to the people who are not nice to me, as i am being with [Sunrose] its all funny to me.
she is about the only other person i trust
2011-03-21 [Sunrose]: *applause*
2011-03-21 [Rice]: You talk in circles dear girl. You make about as much sense as a condom factory in the Vatican. XD
2011-03-21 [kians mummy]: [Kaimee] is a lovely person to know, and i enjoy talking to her, i've not done anything wrong on here for her to dislike me, and as for this i'm ignoring all your comments and if either of you post one more comment below this one, i will report you, [Rice] you should no better
2011-03-21 [Sunrose]: The point is that you were given tips on how to become crew, which seems to be something you really want, but instead you focus on other issues. We could possibly offer you very valuable information for you to get where you want to be. But you seem to rather get offended and threaten with reports.
[Kaimee] is still a guard and thus part of the system you called corrupt. So is [Hedda] for that matter.
2011-03-21 [Rice]: Reports which hold no merit.
2011-03-21 [kians mummy]: [Rice] i have reported you [Sunrose] your next
i copied your comments + times and dates, and your name next to them
2011-03-21 [kians mummy]: i sure can
2011-03-21 [nehirwen]: You do? Please tell me. (3 duplicate reports on [Rice] + complaints about [Nioniel] say you're not)
2011-03-21 [kians mummy]: its deemed apropriate as they went against there own rules
2011-03-21 [Mortified Penguin]: Why'd you have to password protect the wiki? Now only council members and guards (and cool people like me) can view the page. And the council and the guards are the two groups you are most often at odds with. Password protecting the page only keeps out regular Elftowners.
2011-03-21 [nehirwen]: You don't think it sort of escalated cause you can't get along with them?
2011-03-21 [kians mummy]: I did not once call them names. And i did not get highrate.
I do not wish for you to keep commenting on this Wiki unless it is in a professional manner.
[Mortified Penguin] This does not apply to you.
2011-03-21 [nehirwen]: Not getting along with people doesn't mean you have to call them names.
2011-03-21 [kians mummy]: She was not getting along with me but i wanted to get along with her.
2011-03-21 [nehirwen]: I guess some people are best to be ignored.
2011-03-21 [Akayume]: I'm fairly certain that badges aren't free to use/manipulate
2011-03-22 [Mortified Penguin]: She could just make a slightly more altered version of the badge to use, like the one I gave [trexor].
2011-03-22 [Paul Doyle]: [kians mummy], no offense, but you're about 5-6 years too late for this kind of "OMG, I gotta save Elftown from the displaced Myspacers" thing. Do yourself and everyone else a favor and make better use of your spare time. This site is not a place to build credentials for applying for virtual sainthood. The vitality of this website is a drop in a bucket compared to what it once was. People are generally not going to give a shit in your quest to be the ET Messiah. (I write this from experience, by the way ^_~) Personally, I only come to ET now to keep up with friends . . . those who are still here, that is. Do note the "active members" list, which is currently about 1030. That's pathetic, and that's the truth. Elftown will probably never completely die, but I think it's safe to say this site will never be in the Internet limelight again, barring a miracle. If you don't believe me when I say this place is a ghost town compared to what it used to be, click back to the past official ET competitions from around 2003-2007, and see the quantity and quality for yourself. Elftown once had more than 10000 active members. Granted, many of them were cybersexers, AOL chat-room types, trolls, pedophiles, Turkish stalkers and other fun people like that, but there used to be a vibrant, vital artistic community here. Most have either left ET completely, or (like me) still log on but say+do very little anymore. If you can somehow breathe sustained life back into Elftown then God bless you because you will have succeeded where everyone else has failed. (In the meantime you'll be the butt of a million Elftown jokes.) Otherwise . . . save your passions and energy for bigger and better things. Make the most of your real life, and don't take this place seriously. When the crew uses you, virtually abuses you and kicks you to the virtual curb when they are through with you, you'll be wondering why the hell you wasted so much time and energy on this place.
Just speaking from personal Elftown experience, and I really have nothing else to add.
2011-03-22 [Kaimee]: Hey children, you're all being very silly :P
I appreciate all your lovely sentiments about me (and Paul's really special sentiments about this website, of course!) but that's not what I'm here to say ;)
[kians mummy], really sorry about this but the altered header and council badge you're using on this wiki are only available for current council members to use on official wiki pages :(
I'm going to take them down, but we can help you think of a way to get your own banners if you like? Things like contests are usually really great for that!
2011-03-22 [Mortified Penguin]: This image, however, is completely free to use!
Not quite the quality of an official Elftown badge, but still... It... It's just a little lumpy!
2011-03-22 [Kaimee]: Wow, that one is actually pretty amazing :D
I'm kind of jealous [kians mummy], Mort is making you presents... :P
2011-03-22 [Akayume]: Yeah. Me too. Where's my hot ebola Mort!?! I thought I could rely on you. ;_______;
2011-03-22 [Mortified Penguin]: You'll get your hot ebola when I get my herpes!
2011-03-22 [Kaimee]: Hey Mort, don't you feel like making that badge a transparent .gif or .png so it looks pretty on my stylesheet? :(
2011-03-22 [Akayume]:
HERE IT IS MORT. COME AN' GIT IT. :D
2011-03-22 [Mortified Penguin]: Don't YOU feel like eating GLASS?
...er, it actually is a PNG. And I ain't gots no fancy photoshop or nuthin' like that, so I reckon that's about as good as it gets. Paint doesn't allow for transparent GIFs... because Paint is a whore.
2011-03-22 [Mortified Penguin]: *eats herpes*
2011-03-22 [Akayume]: If I could figure out how to make stuff transparent, I would do it for you Mort. :P Alas, I have not made paint shop pro my bitch yet. ...Yet.
2011-03-22 [Kaimee]: Oh my gosh, how did you know?! I do feel like eating glass O.o
Here you go then, all transparent and fanciful...
2011-03-22 [Akayume]: ....Guess I don't have too. [Kaimee] beat me to it. XD
Do you like the clear stuff or the sea stuff? HUH??? :O
2011-03-22 [Mortified Penguin]: While you're making images look not so awful in your stylesheet, hows about you spruce up the images in my house?!
2011-03-22 [Mortified Penguin]: Don't make me dig up Tennessee Williams and punch him. Because I will. Is that what you want, [Akayume]? Is it?!
2011-03-22 [Akayume]: ...Maaaaaybeee
2011-03-22 [Mortified Penguin]: I'll do it. Don't think I won't. *slowly reaches for a shovel*
2011-03-22 [Akayume]: GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO!
2011-03-22 [Mortified Penguin]: Alright, that does it. *digs up Oscar Wilde's corpse and smacks it around*
Take THAT, Mark Twain!
2011-03-22 [Akayume]: Huzzah!
2011-03-22 [windowframe]: [kians mummy] asked permission before to see if she was allowed to modify official images. As long as they're kept on this wiki, not put in profiles or presented as if they ARE official, their usage here is fine. Which is why Mort's badge is also fine (and rather awesome :P).
2011-03-22 [kians mummy]: thanks [windowframe] now this wiki is not for chat, so please only comment if its to do with stuff on here
2011-03-22 [Alexi Ice]: Way to go, Morty, that badge is pretty epic !
2011-03-22 [kians mummy]: lol. www.cathug.com
2011-03-22 [Akayume]: But as long as the comments are active we'll comment. :P
2011-03-22 [kians mummy]: [Akayume] i will ask you politely to leave my wiki otherwise i will report you
2011-03-22 [Akayume]: *"I will ask you politely to leave my wiki otherwise I will report you ." :D Helpful grammar hint.
2011-03-22 [nehirwen]: Akayume, there is no reason to keep on commenting, just leave this wiki, it is after all sammie's.
2011-03-22 [Akayume]: As you wish. (;
2011-03-22 [Mortified Penguin]: Now you know how I feel all the time, [Akayume].
2011-03-22 [Mortified Penguin]: In fact, I got kicked out of a wiki in a very similar manner once:
2007-10-09 [The Dark Wolf]: Ginger your not weird.... any even if you where that just makes you more important.
2007-10-09 [Mortified Penguin]: ...but by saying she's not weird, you're suggesting she's less important... for shame.
2007-10-09 [The Dark Wolf]: either get off my Wiki or i WILL contact the guards... first and last warning.
2007-10-09 [Mortified Penguin]: ...you capitalized "will" but not "I"...? ...man... your grammar is messed up... but since I'm a nice guy I'll leave... *hugs you*... thanks for a fun time! ...*leaves forever... yes... forever*
2011-03-22 [kians mummy]: [Mortified Penguin]I did not mean you because you are a good person.
2011-03-22 [Mortified Penguin]: I know, I'm just referencing a time I got kicked out of a wiki (one that stated clearly at the top that I was allowed to say anything I wanted, but nnnoooooo).
2011-03-22 [Alexi Ice]: *Snickers* Is that on 'Mort says stuff?' cuz' that's epic.
2011-03-22 [Mortified Penguin]: Yes. Yes it is.
2011-03-27 [Sunrose]: Is it sherrifs or sheriffs? The spelling differs between the badge and the wiki. Although Mort/Kaimee's badge says Sheriff, but it seems that badge isn't going to be used?
Anyhoo, how does one become a sheriff/sherri
2011-03-28 [kians mummy]: well its not fully set up yet but i will be setting it up soon and it is spelt Sheriffs in microsoft word and also spell checker pro, basically if you earn my trust you can get in, you get your own email adress and there is also a private wiki for people that are under watch
2011-03-28 [Sunrose]: So how do you earn your trust? And what would motivate people to work for you, what do you offer them? Besides the e-mail-address and the private wiki.
2011-03-28 [kians mummy]: [Sunrose] this wiki is just to help the guards as you said to me, its not about the awards.
that way they can't be corrupt and sticking up for one another when they no deep down that the other member of staff was in the wrong
if i feel i can trust you i will give you th job, if they disobay the trust, they lose the job and someone else takes there place. the emails are to help make the members feel more compfortable sending reports to the guards as we will pass them on and if it is about a member of staff they will go direct to [Hedda]
i actually offer them a chance to help the guards
2011-03-28 [Kaimee]: Wait, so members don't make the reports themselves? You pass the reports along to the guards instead?
2011-03-29 [Kaimee]: I'm just trying to work out what the procedure here is, it's a bit confusing :(
It's pretty impressive that [kians mummy] has set up an email domain though, are you going to set up a website at sheriffsofelft
2011-03-29 [kians mummy]: i'm thinking about it, as i can get my uncle to do it, and it will make it a lot easier then, its basically for if they don't have the confidence to trust the guards then they can come to us and we will say for them, its easy really.
because then they will get an opportunity to eg take the picture don downloaded off the internet before the guards do themselves otherwise say if they want to become guards in the very distant future it will take longer as the guards will not trust them as much
2011-03-29 [Sunrose]: It's not so much an award, but a reward I was talking about.
The badges don't make anyone corrupt, power makes people corrupt. If you would give them a badge, they would not yet have any power.
People still want to earn something when they're working hard.
So how do people gain your trust? You wrote before you hate gaining our trust, because it takes too long. So how long does it take to earn your trust?
2011-03-29 [Mortified Penguin]: In that case, can I get a guard and council badge sans the privs?
2011-03-29 [Kaimee]: That does sound cool [kians mummy], but wouldn't it be nicer if you could work with us guards to help people trust us, or in turn, let us know what specific things are happening that is stopping people trusting guards?
I just really don't want people to think they can't come to us with a problem :( See how different it is now that you and I have actually worked things out, rather than a whole lot of mistrust?
I think if you encourage people to make reports themselves it will work out best for everyone, and you could keep letting us know when people have a problem, and help us work it out so that everyone is ok :)
2011-03-30 [kians mummy]: a good thing to get the members to feel comfortable with the guards is say if they have a picture up, you give them the oppurtunity to take it down first, and then if they don't the guards then take full action.
the people gain my trust if they are not ignirorent, arguementative
[Mortified Penguin] sorry to say, it don't work like that, if it did then everyone would have a badge, they should do one on how many wikis you have, but nope.
i want people to trust the guards but how are they going to trust them when the only way you get the guards attention is when you do something wrong
2011-03-30 [Kaimee]: Ohh now, that's a bit mean :( We guards do try and pay attention, and I certainly have payed attention when you came to us with a problem :)
It's good to remember that the guards and council are just normal members like everyone else here, with their own wikis, friends, forums etc that they're busy with. They just happened to be the people who proved over time to be responsible and knowledgeable about elftown, so they gradually became responsible for different areas of elftown.
Maybe the best way to interact with the guards is to remember that they're all individuals and not one big mean force ;)
But what you're trying to do is great, and we certainly can use as many members as we can get who are happy to interact with guards just as if they are normal people when they have a problem :)
2011-03-30 [kians mummy]: thats what i mean, when i came to you with a problem, without a problem we won't even no the guards was there
2011-03-30 [Sunrose]: @Mort: the badge does have a representative function as to show what type of powers have been given to someone. Since you have been given none, the badge isn't given either :P
From the job description you posted for sheriffs, people don't come to interact with sheriffs unless they did something wrong (upload something against the rules).
Guards tend to have other jobs on Elftown, like being a featured image boss or something alike. Through which they do interact with people for other reasons than them doing something wrong. It's impossible for all crew to be everywhere at all times though.
I think people forget that the whole site is based on volunteers. Everyone expects some kind of free service as if it's a natural thing, some almost act as if they paid for it and thus deserve some kind of customer service. Crew members all however have real lives with jobs, family, friends etc.
So of course more help from members is always welcome. Just trying to give you some things to think about, because the better you understand it all, the better solutions you might find to problems that have so far occurred.
2011-03-30 [Kaimee]: Hahaha Sammie, if there's no problem, then the guards are just like other elftowners! :D We all have a pretty diverse range of non-crew friends on here, who feel totally comfortable talking with us like normal ppl :)
2011-03-31 [kians mummy]: [Sunrose], we are not the guards get that straight,
2011-03-31 [hanhepi]: since Sunrose was a Vice Mayor on the Council and a Lieutenant of the Guard, i'm fairly confident that she realizes you aren't the guards.
she seemed to me like she was trying to point out to you that from your own description of the sheriffs, people will get similar interactions: that is to say that in addition to being either an official or "official", you'll be going about your regular lives between letting people know they've done something against the rules.
2011-03-31 [kians mummy]: yep
2011-04-01 [Sunrose]: I never wrote or implied sheriffs are guards, so I'm not sure there is anything to get straight.
I tried to point out that people interact with guards in more situations than rule-violation
2011-04-01 [Alexi Ice]: Hmmm
2011-04-01 [Sunrose]: :D
2011-04-01 [Alexi Ice]: For some reason I don't like the word sheriff. It's spelled funny ...I have no idea why...it just bothers me. Lol
2011-04-01 [Chimes]: It's spelt right. :P
2011-04-01 [windowframe]: No, I'm pretty sure it's spelled Sheriff. <_< </laem>. You've probably just looked at it too many times, Akane. Like when you say one word repeatedly, it just loses all meaning.
2011-04-02 [Alexi Ice]: I know it's spelt write. Rather it just LOOKS funny to me. For whatever reason. My OCD allows me to dislike some words and not be called crazy...*ahem* Moving on now...
2011-04-02 [kians mummy]: [Alexi Ice] your crazy lol
2011-04-02 [Alexi Ice]: I am aware of that little fact, Sammie! But thanks for pointing it out! Hehehe ^^
2011-04-02 [kians mummy]: No worries, i will be putting some different dividers on soon.
